You can ward off those pesky wrinkles with topical formulations and non-surgical treatments for a while, but the time will come when those wrinkles and loose skin will finally catch up with you. At that point, surgical intervention will be necessary to reverse the toll of aging and gravity. A facelift is a surgical solution typically recommended to treat moderate to severe signs of aging on the face. This procedure addresses all of those concerns, including skin laxity, deep facial creases, and the sagging of tissue in areas like the midface and along the jawline.

When choosing a surgeon for your facelift, you want a doctor that has the expertise and experience necessary to produce results that are natural, beautiful, and long-lasting. In addition to extensive experience performing facelifts, Dr. Saad has taught and written chapters about the various facelift techniques that offer the best outcome for each patient. He will work with you to address your precise concerns, producing an appearance that does not look “done,” but just a refreshed, more youthful version of you.

Are You a Candidate?

To qualify for a facelift, patients need to be non-smokers in good health to ensure the procedure is both safe and produces superior, lasting results. Concerns addressed through a facelift include:

  • Loose skin that leads to sagging and hollowing
  • The formation of wrinkles and deep facial creases
  • Fallen, displaced fat and tissue
  • Development of jowls along the jawline
  • A facial profile that has lost definition
  • Loss of confidence due to your aged appearance

Dr. Saad will assess your situation to determine whether a facelift is the best option to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. In some cases, a combination of procedures, such as a neck lift, brow lift or eyelid surgery will further enhance your results. Dr. Saad can also use fat transfer techniques to put the finishing touches on your renewed appearance, with natural results that are permanent in most cases.

Before Your Facelift

At your initial consultation, Dr. Saad will explain to you how facelift techniques have evolved in recent years to produce results superior to the stretched, windblown appearance of facelifts past. In addition to removing and tightening the skin, today’s facelift raises up the deeper structures of the face, repositioning underlying fat, tissue and muscle to create a much more natural look. Care will be taken to minimize visible scarring after your facelift so that the procedure gives you the outcome and confidence you are looking for, as well as a rejuvenated, youthful appearance.

Facelift Options

Dr. Saad understands there is not one facelift technique that works for all patients, so he offers different options for this procedure that allow him to tailor your operation to your precise needs. Surgical choices he might consider for you include:

Full Facelift

This is the standard technique Dr. Saad recommends for patients in need of significant correction. Incisions for a full facelift are made in the hairline and around the ears in the natural creases of the skin to keep visible scars to a minimum. This allows Dr. Saad to remove the most excess skin while repositioning the underlying structure to produce a younger facial contour. A full facelift shaves ten years or more off of your current appearance.

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift involves smaller incisions than a full facelift, so you have a faster, more comfortable recovery from your surgery. However, the procedure is limited as to just how much correction can be achieved. The incisions for a mini facelift are made around the ear in the natural skin creases, and extend behind the ear inside the hairline. The areas of correction are similar to those treated through a full facelift.

Neck Lift

Dr. Saad frequently performs a facelift and neck lift simultaneously to achieve the best results. This surgery requires incisions around each ear, as well as a small incision underneath the chin to remove loose skin and create a smooth contour from the chin to the neck. A neck lift is a good option for patients that are concerned with loose skin underneath the chin creating a turkey wattle look.

Dr. Saad utilizes these newer techniques to your advantage while selecting the least invasive procedure to achieve the best results for you. You will also have the chance to ask questions about your upcoming surgery, so you are comfortable going into your procedure knowing what to expect.

About Your Surgery

General anesthesia is the most common choice for facelift procedures, which allows you to sleep comfortably during your surgery. Facelifts may take around two hours to complete, possibly longer if combined with a neck lift, brow lift or other enhancement. Dr. Saad performs facelifts on an inpatient of outpatient basis, depending on each individual patient.

The Recovery Process

Patients are often pleasantly surprised by their low pain level after surgery, which can be managed with oral medication. You will have some bruising and swelling, but Dr. Saad will instruct you on the use of ice packs and head elevation while lying down to keep it to a minimum. Most patients feel good enough to return to regular activities within about one week, but many wait until the second week to make sure that the bruising and swelling are mostly gone before making any public appearances. The results of a facelift will last many years before the aging symptoms start creeping in once again.

Don’t let self-consciousness about your appearance affect your personal and professional life any longer. Contact Dr. Saad’s office today to schedule your personal consultation and find out if a facelift is the right choice for you.
